Jill Tunbridge has been dancing flamenco for most of her life. Beginning at age 7 in Spanish Dance, in her native Cape Town, she switched to flamenco in Toronto at age 19.  In 1994 Jill moved from Ontario to British Columbia and has been dancing ever since.  Jill has studied with many flamenco greats including Alejandro Granados, Maria del Mar Moreno and Vancouver's Rosario Ancer and Oscar Nieto and Paula Moreno in Toronto.  In 1999 she began teaching her craft in White Rock and in 2006 opened her own dance studio.  Every September Jill presents the Flamenco del Mar Festival in White Rock, showcasing dancers from the studio as well as invited guests.  To define flamenco is more than a word... fire, passion, heart, life.  It is an experience.  It is an artistic expression that responds to the rhythms within our song - accepting the peaks and the challenges we face in life.  Tonight you will see Jill perform alongside Gaston and accomplished rider Veli Levaaho.  Spain is magical.  There is a connection between the fine horsemanship in Andalusia and flamenco (where both thrive).  Tonight you will see it.

"Everytime I dance my soul comes up for air..."

Rocket Garrocha/Liberty Demonstration

“Dare To Live It!”

Hi Everyone. Paul Dufresne is a TRAINING FOR COURAGE trainer/clinician with a Natural Horesmanship foundation mixed in with Classical Dressage/Spanish Reining/Liberty/and Trick Training. He teaches clinics wherever people want him to teach in North America. . The Courage being developed is both for Horse and Rider.

Today the demo being performed is an Improvisation to music with the Garrocha (long 13 foot pole). Rocket is a 9 year old Azteca gelding that has been predominantly prepared by my seventeen year old daughter. He has a great foundation that Acacia has put allot of effort into, I will hopefully be able to tap into and provide you with some interesting entertainment. The Garrocha pole is used for working the fighting cows and bulls of Spain and Portugal. This pole also had some combative qualities to its use that applied to more than cattle I am sure. It has now also been further used as a Spanish classical freestyle form. The version you will see this Fiesta will be my own North American version with a Spanish flavor. When working with the fighting bovine stock your ability to make quick upward and downward transitions is critical to the survival of the horse and rider. Over agitating the herd may get you taken out. In short you need a great balance of Whoah and GOAH! There will be some very high intensity movements as well as some very slow controlled athletic outburst to dead calm with a bit of the Classical arts flavor added to it. If things go as planned we might even throw a few moves out there seldom or never seen as well as maybe one or two other surprises. Hope to make you familiar with the edge of your seat looking at what most people only dream of!
